  1. Make ready 1/4 kg Kathirikai/Brinjal
  2. Prepare 2 tsp Sesame Oil
  3. Prepare 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  4. Take 5 Fenugreek seeds
  5. Make ready 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  6. Get 10 Shallots roughly chopped
  7. Prepare as required Curry leaves few
  8. Prepare 1 Medium Size Tomato chopped
  9. Prepare 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  10. Make ready 2 tsp Sambar powder
  11. Take 5 Garlic pods roughly chopped

  15. Get 1/2 cup Grated Coconut
  16. Take 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  17. Take as required Coriander leaves few

Brinjal recipes have become a routine at home these days. After ennai kathirikai kulambu my fav is this Kathirikai Puli Kuzhambu….make some rice,a simple stir fry and you are done with your meal. Dip brinjal pieces to the water. Now chop tomato to cube shapes and also peel the skin of onion.

Steps to make Kathirikai Puli Kuzhambu/Brinjal Curry:
  1. Wash and cut the Brinjal and put it into a water bowl.
  2. In a kadai, add oil. Once oil gets heat, add mustard seeds, fenugreek and asafoetida. Fry it.
  3. Add shallots and curry leaves. Saute till shallots becomes translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes and brinjal, saute in medium flame for 5 mins.
  5. Add tamarind extract, garlic, turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt. Let it boil.
  6. Meanwhile add grated coconut and cumin seeds in a mixie. Grind to a smooth paste by adding water gradually.
  7. Add the ground paste in the curry. Then add required water. Cover and cook for 15 mins in medium flame.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves. Mix well. Transfer to a bowl.
  9. Now it's ready to serve. Serve with hot rice, idli and dosa.
